Role Overview
Canonical is looking for an Associate Linux Support Engineer who is passionate about Linux and open-source technologies. This role is ideal for early-career engineers eager to learn, solve real-world technical challenges, and deliver excellent support to customers using Ubuntu-based solutions.
You will work remotely while collaborating with a global support team to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues across cloud, desktop, server, and IoT environments.

Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support via email, phone, and web-based channels
Own customer issues end-to-end, from initial diagnosis to final resolution
Troubleshoot Linux system issues, including kernel crashes and configuration problems
Analyze logs, stack traces, and system behavior to identify root causes
Escalate complex cases to senior engineers when required
Maintain clear communication with customers and internal teams
Create and update knowledge base articles and technical documentation
Share technical updates and notices with relevant stakeholders
Manage workload based on priority and SLA commitments
Participate in weekend or rotational support schedules
Continuously upgrade skills as Canonical’s products evolve
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong academic background in school and university
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Hands-on Linux troubleshooting experience
Exposure to at least two of the following areas:
Linux system or server administration
Basic programming or scripting (Bash, Python, C/C++, Go, JavaScript, etc.)
Networking fundamentals (firewalls, routing, MTU, file systems)
Virtualization or cloud concepts
Ability to work under pressure in a customer-facing role
Strong written and spoken English communication skills
Comfortable working with global, multicultural teams
Willingness to travel internationally 2–4 times per year for company events
Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills
Experience with virtualization tools such as KVM, VMware, or VirtualBox
Familiarity with open-source platforms and communities
Contributions to open-source projects or forums
Knowledge of containerization or cloud platforms
